2010 (19 - 21 Jan) Solo Exhibition Outside the Narrative, Scottish Parliament
This exhibition provides a first hand account and unique insight into my own personal experience as a mental health service user. It consists of words and images, photography, and an audio piece How to Fly in Formation. It is supported by mental health charity Penumbra, Knucker Press, and sponsored by Richard Simpson MSP. The exhibition will be touring following its initial showing at the Parliament.

2009 (Ongoing) Artlink Design Mentor and Screen Printer
Working with Artlink’s West Lothian mental health group I have been mentoring adults in design skills. Together we have been designing posters, fliers, and point of sale material for community fruit and vegetable stall Welfehd in West Lothian. Using the group’s drawings as a starting point, I have been translating these images into design work in consultation with the group. Eventually these designs will be screen printed in the studio and used by Welfehd.

2009 Audio Project: St Cuthbert’s Way
100km walk through the Border’s countryside and Northumbria. I took sound recording equipment along to document the trip and created a ‘scrapbook’ of bucolic sounds. From this I then edited together a series of layered soundscapes, and have also manipulated some of the individual sounds to transform them from the recognisable into abstract compositions.

2009 Film: Somebody Else
Working with director Isis Thompson, I was the subject of a short documentary. The film explores the fine line between spirituality and mental illness, and is inspired by the poem ‘Somebody Else’. We shot over a period of 3 days in various locations throughout Edinburgh. The film is part of Isis’ Masters Degree in documentary film making, at the London School of Film and Television, and is to appear at film festivals in the coming year.

2009 Poster Commission
Asked by The Hidden Gardens (part of Glasgow’s Tramway) to design a poster for their Adopt a Station initiative. This was displayed in railway stations in Glasgow.

2009 Rebranding Commision, Augustine United Church, Edinburgh
Working alongside graphic designer Aileen Allen we re-branded the church as an organisation and treated the interiors to communicate the new identity as well as developing a new family of signage for the building.

2009 Poster Competition
First prize winner of competition to design a poster to promote a Social Justice Photography Exhibition, sponsored by the Scottish Trades Union Council.

2007 – 2009 Edinburgh’s Telford College - Introduction to Digital Media
This course contained modules on video and sound acquisition and editing; web design, flash animation, and design for print.

2008 Video What Makes a Good Support Worker? with London Charity Penrose
Working alongside ex offenders with additional mental health needs we created a video ‘What makes a good Support Worker’ with the intention of training staff both internally and externally. I was personally responsible for running a short workshop with clients, as well as directing and editing the video. The project was highly successful in terms of engaging clients.

2008 Publication Way Out (ISBN 978-0-9555013-3-3)
Collaborating with poet Jane McKie, we produced a publication Way Out from Knucker Press, published June 2008. This arts publication combines photographic images of views from a window with poetry.

2008 Interiors work for Line, Edinburgh
Commissioned by new media consultancy Line to space plan and design interiors for their new offices.

2006 - 2007 Sound Artist, Edinburgh
Working in collaboration with Glasgow artist Aileen Campbell, wrote a visual score based on sounds on the cycle paths in Edinburgh which was interpreted and performed live by musicians as well as ourselves on the path in June 2007. To create the score we spent several weeks capturing film and audio that we then interpreted to build film and animation vignettes, which were then used as a visual score by musicians. Alongside the musicians, we rigged up our own bicycles with contact mics and used them to create sounds.
